Digital Photo Shoot
2 – Blurs
After seeing
the presentation on the uses of different types of blur, you’re asked to do an photo shoot incorporating at least 3 kinds of blur in a
creative way.
(The Blur Powerpoint can
be opened for review in this folder: Student Drive (I:)/AWT3/Powerpoints
Fours and Pairs:
You can work in groups of up to 4 for shooting, but EACH PAIR of students must have their own separate photos in
one of the two logins, so download to two separate logins, or ask me to
move the appropriate files from one login to another if necessary.
What’s required for this shoot are
good photos demonstrating each of the following blurs:
- Motion blur (2 different ones)
- Panning blur
- Shallow depth
of field blur. Subject
clear, background very blurred
What Do I Mean by “Good Photos”?
- Interesting
subject – look
around and plan for out-of-the-ordinary images, and use the blurs for
artistic effect
- Well
composed –
think about the subject’s relation to the background, and techniques like
framing, leading lines, rule of thirds etc.
- Well
exposed –
suitable lighting of the subject and background
- Demonstrate
the requirements clearly. E.g. for the motion blur, some of the
non-moving part of the picture should be clear and sharply focused, while
the movement is blurred. For the
panning blur, the moving subject should be relatively clear and in focus,
while the background shows the blurred streaks of panning. HINT: lock the
focus (push the button halfway down) on the subject before he/she/it moves – otherwise
the autofocus might jump to the background.
- You may want to crop, adjust levels etc. in
Photoshop
Where to Save:
One of each
pair of students should make the folder
